Sunrise and sunset show --:-- on my watch face

To work out sunrise and sunset, a watch face needs to know roughly where you are. It does not switch on the GPS itself: it reads the last position the watch knows. If there is none, the face shows --:-- rather than a wrong time.

1. Update the watch face

Reading the position needs the location permission. The faces on this site that show the sun (Shadow, Skyring, Dayline, Fieldcraft, Flapboard, Orbiter, Sandglass, Trailmap, Waymark) ask for it since their update of late October 2026. Update the face from the Connect IQ Store app and accept the permission.

2. Give the watch a position once

Start any outdoor activity that uses GPS, wait until it finds your position, then stop and discard it. The face keeps that position afterwards, so you only do this once, and again if you travel far.
